Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
Plastic Surgery has two main components: (i)Reconstructive Plastic Surgery-it restores the function and appearance of the human body after illness or accident. (ii) Aesthetic/Cosmetic plastic Surgery-it is mainly used to change the appearance. Reconstructive procedures are the bases of nearly all plastic surgeon work. It covers all aspects of wound healing and reconstruction after congenital, acquired and traumatic problems, whereas aesthetic surgery plays a smaller but important part. Reconstructive work usually requires major operations and it is the refinement of plastic surgical techniques that have made some other areas operations possible.
Plastic surgeons were once dealing mainly with skin grafts but now the reconstructive surgery now consists of a wide range of powerful procedure like skin graft,flap surgery,microsurgery,etc.
